Edit Online asking for password multiple times

I'm testing out Edit Online for Enterprise 4.1.4.

With a Win7, 32-bit machine using IE9 and MS Office 2007 it worked, but MS Office asked for my username and password three times for a single document.

Should it be asking for a password at all? Why so many times?

Hello,

please check wether the "WebClient" windows service is running and try again with that service deactivated / disabled. This is an older HTTP client service in Windows kept primarily for compatibility with older applications, which has turned out to cause the kinds of problems you are describing. I had exactly the same behavior with a customer although SSO was enabled where Office would bring up these popups all the time and continue to do so even after users entered valid credentials.

Axel

Hi,
I'm having same issue.
I'm using Alfresco Community 4.2d on Windows 2003R2 and accesing the documents on the Share from Windows 7 clients with Office 2010.
Every time I click on Edit Online, I first get a pop up if I want to open a file from location "servername:7070". If I click OK, Word 2010 opens and than I get another popup telling me the server uses basic authentication and I need to input user name and password. User name and password are already populated, but checking the "Remember my credentials" does not help. I still get the pop up every time.
I found a post saying adding HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\WebClient\Parameters\AuthForwardServerList key with a value of the server name would help bypass this popup, but it didn't.
I've tried your suggeston to turn off WebClient service but that didn't help either. Also when I turn the service off, I can't map a the documentlibrary as a network drive, which I need so users can save email attachments to the Share.
Would setting SSL for Sharepoint protocol help bypass these popups? I've tried doing this but was not able to get it to work.
Any help would be appreciated, as I've been struggling with this for days now.

Thanks,
Davor

Hi,

Have you been able to solve this issue or figure out why so many password popups? What type of authentication are you using (basic or SSL)? I am having similar issues, as I described in the earlier post.

thanks,

Davor
