Difference between /alfresco and /share

Hello All,

Can anyone briefly explain to me what the difference is between /alfresco and /share? Both bring up websites that seem to do more or less the same thing although visually different. Do I need to use both? If so, for what, exactly? I noticed that they share users and so on.

I have looked through the documentation and the explanation is basically that alfresco.war is the alfresco war file and share.war is the share war file. A singularly unhelpful comment.

I need to configure sites and users and so on for our company but am stumped as to which site to use for that. What link do I send out to the users?

Thanks in advance,
Julian

My understanding is that /alfresco is sort of the "old" interface, and development is shifting to /share. Both interfaces use the same backend so they share sites, users, etc, but certain features haven't been updated for /share yet. I wish I could be more specific, but I'm just learning this myself. Good luck,
