Defference between Service class and Listeners

Hi, guys
  I'm confuse by these tow element. In which scenario I should use service class(Properties->Main config), and which one I should use listeners? I can find the listeners config even in the sequenceflow, I think there must be a better practice I don't know yet, please offer me some information or advise, thanks.

One aspect is that you can "see" service tasks in the graphical diagram. You cannot "see" the listeners. So listeners is a way to add technical details to the process, without changing the diagram.

That would be one way of looking at it.
