Dashlet ideas

Here are a few ideas I had for useful and/or interesting dashlets that could be written for Share:
    Twitter friends
    Twitter grader
    Evernote
Facebook application directory and installation of gadgets
Google gadget directory and installation of gadgets
OpenSocial application directory and installation of applications
    Pandora
    UrbanSpoon
    Yelp
    Youtube
    Flickr
If you are going to implement any of these, please respond here.  I don't want to duplicate effort if someone's is already working on it.

Thanks,
-Brian

Here's another set of ideas: create dashlets for any of the APIs found here: http://www.programmableweb.com/apis/directory/1?sort=mashups .

Brian,

thanks for the suggestions, all great ideas. I especially like the idea of a dashlet that plays videos from YouTube.

Anyone interested up for the challenge?

BTW, we now have 6 sample dashlets in the Content Community, http://community.alfresco.com/alfresco/n/browse/workspace/SpacesStore/c007d070-a053-11dd-9327-b795e2...

+1

ready to work with people on dashlets.

I've already done a Bugzilla dashlet.

How about make the dashlets collapsible.  So if you have a lot of dashlets you can click on the header and the entire thing shrinks down to just the header bar.

Probably would take a short show/hide div JS.  Hopefully ill find time to get it working.

If anyone beats me to it please let me know!

Why not just allow users to add embed code to their own dashlets (e.g., via Share Web interface)?

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ZZUjzgoCp6k&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ZZUjzgoCp6k&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

The expected sysadmin response is that this is a security risk and administrators must control which dashlets are available. Of course,  many users have been using embed code (Web 2.0 circa 2007)  in their personal blogs, wikis, and websites, and increasingly expect to have this kind of control over their work environments…

The only issue i could see with this is Cross Site Scripting Attacks (XSS) or sloppy queries bogging down alfresco.

If you could block java script in this dashlet, i think it would work with minimal and mitigatiable issues.

Though, i think i have 2 users other than my self with this level of expertise….

Realize this thread is pretty old,
but my team is looking for a 'discussion' dashlet, basically something with the discussion functionality but in a dashlet instead of having to click through the discussion tab.

Hello,

I would like to ask if there is such a thing as a 'poll' dashlet?

Thanks.
Bernard.
