Customize document library upload

Hi there.

We're looking to customize the Share Document Library in Alfresco 3.2 so that, when a user clicks "Upload File", the popup has more functionality in it.  Specifically, we want to require the user to add tags and some other metadata to the file as it's being uploaded instead of editing it afterwards.  Our users are already familiar with the Document Library so we'd like to do this with a minimum of changes to the existing UI… i.e., we don't want to implement our own custom upload form, we'd like to use the one that's already there as much as is possible.

Can anyone point me to a good tutorial resource for capturing this UI element and extending it, or give me some tips on where to start?

Thanks!

any info/progress on this topic please?
(i'm afraid this might be complicated as the upload process allows multiple files to be uploaded)

I don't know enough right now to edit any UI elements, but you can add rules to the folder to extract or add meta date, add tags to any files added to the folder.

Unfortunately I realize that will not always be the case for some folders (tags more specific to the file itself, various content authors for the folder.

We had designs for tagging / editing metadata on multi file upload very early on in Share but it was going to be way too complicated for average users to work with.

Thanks,

That does not solve my problem. I need exactly what you described in your original post, something Explorer has: when you upload a file you get (optionally) redirected to a form where you can edit properties (including meta-data). It would be nice if I could determine whether that should happen on-upload-time. (I was told that Sharepoint somehow can ensure that. I'm not sure though whether it does so via Word or just by itself.)

And like I said, I do understand that the desired behavior is not very clear in cases when someone is adding multiple files in one upload.

Am I blind or is "Thanks" link invisible?
