Custom Metadata

Hi.

We have a project in which we would like to upload an image file and wrap it in certain metadata. Obviously an IMG file doesn't have much in the way of metadata but is there a way that we could upload our own XML file or something so that we could make Alfresco have the metadata we want?

Any suggestions on how to get metadata into Alfresco for an IMG file would be greatly appreciated.

Defining an aspect sounds like your best bet. Have a read of the Data Dictionary Guide to see how you go about this: http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/Data_Dictionary_Guide

There is also an example model you can take a look at that already has an aspect called 'imageClassification' which defines a few properties for an image, you can use this as a starting point. You'll find the file in <tomcat-home>/shared/classes/alfresco/extension.
