I would like to use my own css for the alfresco interface, is there a reference to how to do this?

You can either edit the Alfresco css file directly or import your own css from within the Alfresco css.

To include your custom css within the document head you'll need to modify org.alfresco.web.ui.repo.tag.PageTag and recompile it.
