Create metadata which the type is autonumber?

It is possible to create a field of metadata that is autonumber?

The ids for documents in Alfresco are too complex to be used between users to communicate. So, i would like to create my own id for the documents!

I would also like that this id to  would be an autonumber, that is, that when I upload a document alfresco gives it a unique sequencial number.

The key is too complex for most uses, so the unique Long ID gets exposed via the metadata: http://forums.alfresco.com/viewtopic.php?p=10319
