Hi all,

Looking at alfresco rss feed dashlet.  Is it possible to configure an rss feed dashlet to receive an rss feed from a space in the repository.  Thereby users can keep an eye in their dashboard of what documents are in a space.

Yes it should be, but I've just tried and it seems there's an issue somewhere. I'll take a look.

thanks mike, it seems like a logical thing to be able to do so that you can keep an eye on certain spaces.  We could not get it to work for us.

On the same topic,  I am assuming that an rss feed from a space is just a view of what is in the space and not an activity synopsis of what happened in the space.  Is that correct.

Ok, I forgot that you need to invite the guest user to the space as a Consumer in order for the RSS feed to be accessible without authentication.

Currently, the RSS Feed dashlet doesn't support authentication.

Thanks,
Mike

Is this also why the RSS Feed dashlet doesn't work on share's own RSS feeds? I had wanted to display latest blog posts on the dashboard, and have tried to use the RSS Feed dashlet to do so, however it doesn't work (ditto for the wiki and other parts of Share which give an RSS option).

Even if the site is public, it doesn't work, and you can't invite the guest user to a site (or at least, I tried and failed). Note that this is displaying feeds from the same site, so the user is already logged in and has permission (though I'm guessing that the reading of the feed is probably being done by the server, so the user's authentication probably isn't available).

Being able to see the latest news (blog) postings on the site dashboard would be a nice feature, and using RSS to do it would seem a quick and flexible way of achieving this.

I agree with Samuel. I was trying to get this to work as well. It would be ideal to be able to take the rss feeds and add them to the dashboard.

Any known workaround to get this going?

Not currently, no. The RSS feeds were designed to be consumed by external RSS readers; the dashlet doesn't implement authentication.

Please feel free to raise an enhancement request in JIRA to bring it "officially" to our attention.

Thanks,
Mike

Thank you MikeH

Question: is there a specific process i need to go through to submit to the JIRA? i don't want to go in and submit my request and find i did it all wrong. I have been unable to find any instructions to this end either.

Any feedback would be helpful and i will submit my request soon per your suggestion.

Thanks,
-b

No real formal process exists - choose "Create New Issue", then "Alfresco Labs" then either "Bug" or "Improvement" depending on how you'd class it. I think this should be raised as a bug personally.

Thanks,
Mike

It's not just a Labs issue, we noticed the bug under Alfresco Enterprise. If you could post a link back to the JIRA issue you raise here, I can add a comment to that effect.
