CIFS DOC,XLS,PPT can not launched - read only / locked

There seems that there is maybe a problem with Alfresco 3.2 CE – when i try to open a MS-Office docment e.g. MS-Word Document DOC direct from a CIFS folder it is not possible to open it with a double click - the document seems to be locked by another process ??

It is possible to

-   Copy a doc
-   Delete a doc
-   Rename a doc
-   Save a doc direct from MS-Word to the CIFS drive
-   Create a new doc on the CIFS

But it is not possible to open the Doc from the CIFS folder by double click – in this case an error message comes up that the file is actual in use - and the file can only opened read only.

The same done via the a WebDAV folder - no problem - no error and double click to open works correct.

I added all rights to – the logged in owner of the folder, to EVERYONE and to the GUEST user – so there can not be a restriction oft he rights – it seems that there is a process which blocks the DOC document and which does not gives it free.

I used Office 2007 for my tests. - with DOC and also DOCX and i also made tests with PPT and XLS

When i try to drag&drop the DOC to the Alfresco Checkin&out.EXE function an other error message comes up that this is not allowed by the actual security settings. ??

When i try the same with the MS-Office Plugin – there same happens - when i check on and use the CIFS folder access – when i do the same with the WebDAV there is no problem and all works correct.

I also made the same test on the same machine with a Alfresco Enterprise Edition 3.0 and there it works correct without a problem - so it can not be the client or the configuration of MS-Office. it only happens with Alfresco 3.2 CE

Does anybody has / had the same problem with the 3.2 CE ?
Can this be a configuration problem of the file server settings ?

Thank you for your help

There is also an other problem on the CIFS

It is not possible to use drag&drop e.g. to move files on the CFIS to another folder or to drag&drop files / folders from the CIFS to my workstation - i can use the "copy / paste" command from the right mouse but with drag & drop i get an error that this is not allowed by the security settings. but i can add files to the CIFS by drag&drop.

The same done with WebDAV is no problem - with WebDAV the full drag&drop - internal and also external works correct - no error messages and no restrictions ?

Configuration problem or a bug of the version 3.2 CE ?

Hi,

ich have the exact same problem here, something i can narrow for us is that it seems to be a Vista. Problem. It works with the same Office 2007 version at XP pro and does not wor at Vista Business.

Thanks

I have that exact problem as well.

I've configured that following auth. chain (I don't think suppose the problem lies here though):

authentication.chain=alfrescoNtlm1:alfrescoNtlm,passthru1Smiley Tongueassthru,ldap1:ldap
ntlm.authentication.sso.enabled=false
alfresco.authentication.authenticateCIFS=false
passthru.authentication.authenticateCIFS=true
ldap.authentication.active=false
ldap.synchronization.active=true

From my point of view this seems to be a bug of the CE 3.2. - when i do the same with the EE 3.0 it works.

Can you please test this on your installation - i found out that there is a way to work with check in / out - so it seems to be a mixed locking between "lock" and "unlock" of documents from CIFS.

- check out a document
- the checked out document gets a lock symbol from the Web-UI explorer
- now it is not possible to open the checked out document by double click like it should be normal - the document should be unlocked but it is locked and can not opened by a double click but
- you can open the locked original document by double click - edit the now open document - save the changes to the  working copy
- check in the working copy
- now the working copy is removed and the original file is updated.

So this tests shows that as checked out document which should be "locked" from the CIFS can opened by a double click and edited but the checked out working document can not opened by a double click.

Do you have the same situation also with your installation ?

Yes exactly. Word 2007 informs me that the checked out document is currently in use, but the original file can be opened, and so forth.

This bug effectively renders CIFS unusable in production, for me at least.

With this bug you can not use CIFS but you can use the MS-Office integration Plugin together with WebDAV configured from the integration - With WebDAV it works - you can open with double click and the integration macro for MS-Office can be used - but a direct double click on CFIS is not possible.

If you've found (or think you've found) a reproducible bug, please raise a JIRA ticket.

Thanks,

Hi, All
Same problem with Alfresco 3.2CE and MS Office2007

Client OS - WinXp Pro

I have made several tests with Office 2003 and it works with 3.2 CE, but sometimes it looses the login to the CIFS (I did not save the credentials in Windows, because I am working with different users in Alfresco) after editing a document by double click and closing word.

So really reliable is it not in my test environment.
