__CheckInOut.exe on Linux+WINE

With Linux+WINE, I tried to run __ShowDetails.exe  and __CheckInOut.exe, but I received this error: "Not a valid Alfresco CIFS folder".

Any trick to check in/check out on Linux without the web interface?
Or is it impossible?

I have read the source code for __CheckInOut.exe:
alfresco-enterprise-svn-HEAD/alfresco/HEAD/root/projects/repository/source/cpp/CAlfrescoApp/source/alfresco/

While it is not complex, I figured that there is probably an easier solution:
1) Write a checkin/checkout webscript
2) Call this webscript from a shell script on Linux/Mac/UNIX
This is probably easier than porting the Windows code, and it removes the dependency on WINE.

Anybody tried this approach? If yes, is the source code available?

It is not using __CheckInOut.exe
It runs natively on Linux.
