Hi,

Currently I am evaluting Alfresco 3.0 and I wanted to know how can i see the category list on Alfresco share UI.  I have added some category to the documents on the document libray but on the share UI am not able to see it.

Can anyone help me , how can we manage category on Share UI?

Many Thanks
Kayan

I actually came across the same question but don't quite agree to your point, Mike.

I think categories and tags belong to the same familiy but are two different concepts. While categories are predefined and centralized, tags are more user generated and democtratic. Both concepts are fine and suited for different use cases. But I don't think tags can actually replace categories. Both can actually live together.

Now is Alfreso Share more the Web 2.0 part of Alfresco and therefore more in favour of tags, I understand. But neverless, those who actually want to use Alfresco Share in an Enterprise (which I think is perfectly valid) will actually miss the category support here.

It's a fair point and is just something we didn't have time to implement. It would be fairly trivial to add a read-only view of the Categories a document belonged to, but a more useful implementation would involve a category tree (e.g. under the Library tree on the Doc Lib), Category picker, etc.

Some form of Category picking will be coming in v3.2 as part of the new Forms Service, so you'll at least be able to categorise documents.

Thanks,
Mike

Thx, Mike. I am looking forward to forms anywaySmiley Happy

PS: How does rating of a post work? I have seen the not about it in Mike's signature but couldn't find this option yet.
