I am going through the Alfresco 2.1 Web Content Management Product Evaluation Guide. I get to the step where I am supposed to upload a sample webform called company-footer.xsd from my local drive. When I attempt this, I get the following error message:

javax.faces.el.EvaluationException: Exception while invoking expression #{WizardManager.bean.schemaFileValueChanged}
caused by:
javax.xml.transform.TransformerFactoryConfigurationError: Provider org.apache.xalan.processor.TransformerFactoryImpl not found

Which versions of the JVM and Tomcat are you running Alfresco on?

Java = java-1.6.0

Tomcat = tomcat5

Try JDK 1.5.0_08+ with Tomcat 5.5.23+ - those are the versions Alfresco installs by default, and that exception appears to be a problem with earlier versions of Tomcat (5.0.x).
