Can Open Office run an a separate server?

I notice that during file import operations, soffice.bin is eating up most of the CPU on my alfresco server.  Has anyone experimented with running Open Office on a separate, dedicated server?

Background: I'm running Alfresco community 3.2 nightly build from 9/29/2009 on a single 32bit processor machine with Windows Server 2003.
