Can alfresco be used to create a intranet site

I am planning to create a intranet site within my organisation, can I use alfresco for this. I will be handling more than 300 GB of files and also need a discussion forum. Is alfresco is sufficient for this. I don't have any prior experience in creating website.

If those are your only needs, then Alfresco vanilla will do very well.
It can scale without problem and you can organise your users in "sites" which are public/private spaces each containing wiki, discussion forums, calendar, etc.

I'd suggest you have a look at Alfresco in the cloud (https://my.alfresco.com/share/) if you just want a quick preview of what Alfresco can do and what it looks like without installing your own server.
