Bad idea to change Tomcat ports to 8181?

On our test machine we already had a Tomcat app running on port 8080. I thought I could make the Alfresco Tomcat bundle use port 8181 instead so I changed that in the server.xml file.

Will that break a lot things? I found a few references in file-servers.xml related to the Desktop actions which I also changed port number in because they were written as statics links.

Any comments would be very helpful…

Hi,

You should be able to change the ports that a second instance of Tomcat uses without causing any problems.
You will need to change all the ports in the server.xml file to ensure there is no conflict with the 2 tomcat instances.
You may also have to change some of the ports specified in Alfresco config files - such as FTP port for the second server…

Hope this helps,

Steve

Is there a white paper or HOWTO which clarifies all the changes that need to be made?  This would be a GREAT help!

Thanks!
Randy

Hi,

The information on how to configure multiple instances of Tomcat is contained within the Tomcat documentation.

In your Tomcat directory, read the file called 'RUNNING.txt'

Hope this helps,

Steve
