Assigning categories to multiple files at once

Hello,

I'm trying to upload a large set of company files (1,000-5,000) vía Alfresco Share (4.0a) into a Document Library on a Site I have created for this purpose. I can successfully upload many files (albeit slowly as I need to go folder by folder), but I also need to categorize them with multiple Categories I have created.

Q: Is there a way to select multiple files (e.g. 100 files in a folder) and assign one or more categories to these files in one simple click?
(instead of having to go file by file)

Unfortunately, there isn't an out-of-the-box, single-click solution to this problem. If you are able to group documents for the same category set by folder or some other criteria (like file name pattern, title, or tag) you could set up a folder rule to do it. You would create the rule on the folder, set the criteria, and then use one or more "Link to Category" actions to set the appropriate categories.

If this is something you are going to do often, you could write a customization that would add an action to the "Selected Items…" dropdown like "Set Category". Upon clicking that you could launch a dialog with a category picker, and then set the selected categories on the selected batch of documents.

How are you able to upload multiple files at once?  I am using Alfresco Community and am only able to upload and download single files.

Just like Enterprise Edition, the Community Edition uploader supports both drag-and-drop of multiple files and multiple file upload using the upload button. But you've got to be using Alfresco Share, not the old Alfresco Explorer interface, which only supports single file upload.
