Apache problem with error 404

Ok basically, I am not able to run alfresco.  I am getting error 404 (starting the browser) or 500 for the share. 

So much stuff has changed since the time I opened this thread (Migrated my server to Slack 13, newer Apache, MySQL, etc etc etc….) so instead of deleting this thread and creating a new one, I simply deleted the non-relevant posts (that contained out of date info) so please see the posts below for most up to date info.

A local firewall or other security rule is preventing Alfresco connecting to your MySQL port, 3306. You need to resolve why that might be.

There is some interesting developments.  I had to reinstall the whole system, and I went from slackware 12.2 to the latest 13.  I reinstalled everything including alfresco.  Now this time I was able to create & connect to the database, MySQL is properly configured, and apache seems to work also fine, but I still cant access the webpages for the alfresco interface and the share interface.  The weird thing is that when I reinstalled everything, I was able to access the thing, but since I rebooted the machine, I no longer can access the web interfaces…

Mainly, I want to point out the "cannot open connection" and tons of errors with "beans"…. (see the localhost.<current-date>.log )

This is still not fixed… Anybody can give me some help???  I managed to get over 6 different systems to run on the server I installed Alfresco, but it is the only one that still does not run….

Ok,  it seems that I still cant run Alfresco on my server.  Any idea?  Support people? There is tons of similar experiences in the forums, but I have not found a single solution to that problem.  Can anybody point me to a potential solution?

If I dont get this program running in the next few days, I will be forced (by requests) to find a different platform….  Which I dont want because Alfresco seems to be "top-notch".

Could my problem be related to permissions?  Corrupted files?  Do you recommend uninstalling 3.2r and installing 3.3 instead?

I had the same problem. Further research showed that my moving the 'Sites' folder inside the web interface hosed this installation once I restarted the server.

What worked for me was dropping the 'alfresco' MySQL database and reinstalling Alfresco (after preserving my custom configs, of course).

There's no way you are going to get answers as to why your server is not running without posting more details.    And the title of this thread is misleading.

At minimum you need to post any errors from your alfresco.log or are you still failing to open the connection to your database as per your posting in March?   If so then please post details of your database configuration.

i think im having the same 404 problem. i have a computer without an internet access(connection) and i had installed mysql and then i insatalled xammp. xamp installed apache and filezilla. recently i installed alfresco. while the installation it gave me a message mentioning that the port 3306 has been used so give another port number. so i gave the port number 3308. then every thing went right and the installation completed. then i open the browser and typed "http://localhost:8080/alfresco". but it didn't give me the required page. instead it gave me the following,
