Anyone?!

Im looking to do the same to cut down the time it takes for a preview to load when the document is first viewed.

Can someone point me in the right direction? Do I need to customise the upload script? If so what file do I need to edit?

First you will need to work out where the time is being spent.   Then you can focus upon your problem.    A profiler such as yourkit may help.
