Alfresco2 CIFS configuration 'duplicate name'

Hi All,

This is probably a very basic question, so I apologise in advance…

I having  real fight with CIFS. Whenever the the server is rebooted the server name for Alfresco  gets duplicated preventing connection from a remote machine.

Having read the posts already on this forum on a similar subject I've tried changing the hostname in file-server.xml and restarted lanmanserver, this solves the problem as far as usability is oncerned until the next reboot, a which time the new host name is duplicated preventing connection.

Here's the output rom nbtstat -n on the server

                NetBIOS Local Name Table

       Name               Type         Status
    ———————————————
    SERVER         <00>  UNIQUE      Registered
    NORFOLK        <00>  GROUP       Registered
    SERVER         <20>  UNIQUE      Registered
    ALFRESCO-SERVER<20>  UNIQUE      Registered
    ALFRESCO-SERVER<00>  UNIQUE      Registered

Both server and remote are windowsXP SP2. It's a standard P2P network run on one workgroup and subnet with only a max 5 machines, so nothing complex.

Any thought / recommendations / advice onhow to solve this problemwould be gratefully received.

Thanks

Keith

I'm running into the same issues.  I've installed Alfresco on my local machine.  Every time I try to hit CIFS I get the "A duplicate name exists on the network" message.

I've changed the host name as well.

Anyone have any advice?

Hi,

Are you using WINS or broadcast lookups for NetBIOS ?.

You could try switching off native SMB/port 445 and see if that helps (there's some info at the bottom of this page on the wiki http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/File_Server_Configuration).

Cheers

Gary

Thank you!!

That did the trick.  I commented out:
<tcpipSMB platforms="linux,solaris,macosx"/>
in file-servers.xml

And I added the registry key detailed on the WIKI.  I'm now able to mount virtview.

Thanks again!

Has anyone found a solution to this issue which allows me to keep file sharing on. I ask because there are some situations where smb sharing is needed, such as a single server enviroment.
