Hi,
I have been trying to get Alfresco working on CentOS but keep running into the same problem.
The guide I have been following is this one. http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/Installing_Alfresco_Community_WAR_on_Centos_5

I started with a fresh install of CentOS with just the Webserver and CentOS config tools installed.

The problem im getting is when I goto localhost:8080/alfresco I get this error

HTTP Status 404 -

type Status report

message

description The requested resource () is not available.
Apache Tomcat/5.5.23

I thought i might be able to see one of the css files through the my web browser so went to localhost:8080/alfresco/css/main.css, but I still got the same error as above.

Ive had a look in /var/log/tomcat5/, but the only file in there is catalina.out, and I couldn’t make and sense of what was in that file, I didn’t understand it really.

Does anyone have an idea of whats gone wrong?
Thanks

CentOS 5 has a JVM installed that doesn't get along well with Alfresco. Download the Java SE Development Kit (current version JDK 6 Update 13) from java.sun.com. There are rpm's available for easy installation.

Then you need to tell your CentOS installation to use Sun's java, instead of the open source one that came with CentOS. The CenOS forum has a thread that describes how to do it here: http://www.centos.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=8390

I found that Alfresco still wouldn't work with the new java until I uninstalled and re-installed Alfresco. So, the moral of the story is to have the correct java in place before starting the installation.

Hi thanks for that, I had a look and changed the version of Java CentOS was using. I have done a new install of Alfresco but I still get the same error as above in my previous post.

Do you have any other ideas as to whats going wrong with this?

Cheers
