Hi,

We have installed alfresco community edition version 3.0 and created some User Groups (eg. xyz).

How can i rename the User Group from 'xyz' to 'abc'. Is it possible to do.

Please help me out.

Thanks,

There are two names for a group.   The authority name which will be something like GROUP_XYX.    And the display name which can be whatever you like.      You can change the display name but you can't change the authority name.

To do this in 3.0 you will need to use the Authority Service,  the Java Script and REST APIs for groups are part of 3.2.

Can you please refer any site, which elaborates the steps.

I am bit confused.

THe group that u created in alfresco will be listed in alf_node_properties table

For example: I created a group Alfresco_Admins on alfresco web client and in alf_node_properties table, it was listed under
the string_value column as GROUP_Alfresco_Admins. I renamed it, saved and just refreshed the web client.  THe group got renamed.

But I am not convinced whether it is the right way to modify or edit a group name.

PLease suggest if there are any other alternatives.

Thanks,
Sanket.

Did you lose any permission or sub-group association?

Well..Strange to say…But I tried the same thing again.
Created a new group. Added 2 subgroups. Added a few users to the group.

And then tried to rename the group. Its not reflected. The group name remains the same.

Sorry to say but I think I picked up the wrong way…There shud b some other alternative to this.
