Alfresco and Portal system

Hi all.

We have this scenario: we want to use Alfresco as Content Managment and build our portal using Liferay.

We'ld like to have the Alfresco CMS on a server and publish alfresco contents in Liferay pages. We have downloaded these files:

  • liferay-portal-tomcat-5.5-4.4.0.zip

  • alfresco-portlet-4.4.0.1.war
We have unzipped the Liferay portal and then we have deploied the alfresco portlet.

Now it seems that the alfresco portlet is the full CMS in a portlet and here we can put and handle our contents.

It seems that there is no "alfresco client portlet" that can get contents form alfresco repository and show these contents in our portal pages.
Is this correct?
If this is correct….Does anyone know if there is any open-source project that covers this scenario?

Thanks to all.

Hi All,
I'm just getting my feet wet with Alfresco, and am setting up an intranet for my new company using LifeRay and Alfresco.  I have the LifeRay portal running on JBoss, and installed the Alfresco-Client portlet (alfresco-portlet-4.4.0.1.war) downloaded from the LifeRay site:
http://www.liferay.com/web/guest/downloads/community_plugins/software_catalog/products/191016?_98_re...
I'm trying to find any information on it, and am not finding much out there.  Is there an official project around it?

Some of my questions that I'm trying to figure out are:

1. Is this created/endorsed by Alfresco.com
2. What version of Alfresco is this portlet bassed on?  Is it a fully enabled version of Alfresco?
3. How do you set up SSO between LifeRay and this portlet?  Do you need to set up CAS or are there config changes that can make this happen?
4. Can the Web Content management plugins be installed on top of this portlet?
5. Can CIFS be used when Alfresco is deployed as a Portlet?

If anyone has any info about this portlet please let me know, or point me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance,
Mark

ps…I'll post to liferay as well and see if i get any bites

@mliedtke:
for as for as I got uptill now..thus partially ansering your questions=>
1. no (there do exist different versions of the portlet, search the wiki for the alfresco recipe)
2. I'm on 4.3.4, portlet in there is 2.1 but you can build and deploy 2.9b portlet using instructions found in alfresco wiki
3. SSO is arranged directly within the portal, so not by means of cas f.e., this is the part where some problems arise when going beyond 4.3.2 and 2.1 (see forum and wiki: portlets don't show content because either service or authentication not working properly) I'm stuck at this point despite some help from users in this forum.
4. yes, they are applied to your running alfresco instance
5. yes
maybe this (partially) helps   and others will add..

peterh_NL,
Thanks for the update.  I played around a bit with the alfresco portlets last week, and am starting to move.  It looks like the  version out on the Liferay site is the full 2.0 version of Alfresco that has been made into a portlet using the Alfresco recipe on their site.  I may look into upgrading to 2.1 at a later time.

As for the SSO, that makes sense that you wouldn't have to use CAS since it's a portlet and running in the same app server.  At this point it's still not working for me.  I vaguely remember seeing a post that had had a config change you need to update so that Alfresco knows what user attribute to look at.  I'm going to search around to see if I can find that info.  If anyone has seen that post can you put a link into this thread.

Again thanks for the update!

Hey peterh_NL,
Thanks again for you post. I continued messing with the alfresco portlet yesterday, but unfortunately didn't make much progresses.  I think some of my issues my have to do with the fact that I'm using the 2.0 (liferay portlet) version from the liferay site.  I'm going to pull down the 2.1 version from alfresco's site and portalfy it today, and see if I make any progress.

In your setup do your setup do you synchronize users from LDAP?

I vaguely remember reading in some post that you just need you just need the username to be the same on both systems (LifeRay & Alfresco) for it to work properly.  Is that the case?

If you or anyone in that matter has seen any good information on this subject, please post links.

Thanks,
Mark
