Hi,
i've a project to deploy an alfresco server in order to :
- Replace windows file server
- Offer some little website for some project
- Integrate document lifecyle (management, archiving,…)
With linux / windows /office /openoffice…. clients, a real paradise for sysadmin 🙂

So after long search on the internet : alfresco is the product.

Today i've installed alfresco in test environment and i identified some problem about usage of CIFS (which is mandatory for me).

In branch 4.2.X of alfresco community there is a annoying bug of lock (which seems to exist also in very old alfresco version community/enterprise).
WHen you edit a document (word / excel…) this one is locked, not modifiable until you restart alfresco service.
There is a case open on JIRA : https://issues.alfresco.com/jira/browse/ALF-17651

With version 4.0.x this bug seems not to exist.

Here my questions :
CIFS is it stable under branch 4.0.x?
Someone encounter some problem with CIFS?
Is it some problem with hundred simultaneous user?

Thanks for information Smiley Happy

through CIFS,
   (a) copying large file or more files make the system slow
   (b) version and metadata entry not possible
© I had faced problem for LDAP based authentication.

My suggestion:
You use Alfresco for Document Management
for File sharing you use SAMBA with Linux (check cleasOS or Zentyal for easy setup), if you like you can do it on Linux with SAMBA 4 installed

Great decision to try out Linux

Hi lionelc,
Given JIRA issue https://issues.alfresco.com/jira/browse/ALF-17651 is logged for community version, have anybody tried using 4.1.1 enterprise to test the same issue?
I have not tested this stuff but should work on enterprise.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
I've no idea, how enterprise version deal with this problem.
We prefer to use community version, that's why i need to be sure V4.0.x work with CIFS, until version 4.2x repaired Smiley Happy

So anybody know about community version and cifs stability?
