Alfresco 3 Spaces in Alfresco 5

I am reading a book about Alfresco 3. In that book they are talking about Spaces as a central concept, it is defined as: Space is a folder with additional features, such as, security, business rules, workflow, notifications, local search capabilities, and special views.

I could not find anything about this in the Alfresco 5 documentation. Can someone explain what is the equivalent of Alfresco 3 Spaces in Alfresco 5 (is it a Site?) or does it stilll exist (as the SpacesStore implies) and where can I find the documentation for Spaces in Alfresco 5?

The term comes from the early days of alfresco,  alfresco has "spaces",  windows has "folders", dos has "directories".  To all intents and purposes a "space" in alfresco is a synonym for a "folder".   In fact one of the core services is called the FileFolderService.

There's a pedantic discussion about the difference to be had and perhaps it may be important some day as and when alfresco gets more "folder" types.   I will start the discussion by saying a folder in alfresco is a type of space.    Certainly everything displayed by Alfresco Share is a "folder".    There are likely to be one or two examples where there's a difference, however I can't think of an example so it's going to be obscure!
