I installed Alfresco 3.2 Community Edition on Ubuntu 9.04 and for some reason it won't start properly. To get it to start somewhat properly I first start it (/opt/Alfresco/alfresco.sh start), then I fire up http://127.0.0.1:8080/Share in Firefox on the server machine itself, log in as admin, click around a bit, then fire up http://127.0.0.1:8080/alfresco (notice that's a lowercase "A"), log in as admin then click around a bit. If I don't do it in this order ON THE LOCAL MACHINE first, then I can't log in (I get some remote and authentication error message) and I can't access it from other computers on the network and outside the network (Internet).
Any idea why I have to go through all this before Alfresco starts working properly? Any idea how to get it to just work like it's suppose to when I start it (i.e., log in successfully from remote machines)?
TIA

You probably have a firewall in the way of alfresco.
Please post the details of any errors you see.
And you are using the correct network address from your remote machines? Do you manage to connect at all? What happens?

Yes I can connect from remote machines (on the network and from the Internet) but that's only after I do this huge workaround. I doubt its a firewall issue because I'm able to access Alfresco eventually without any changes to firewall stuff.
Are there settings or configurations I can check to make sure they're set properly for successful start up?

Are you using a tomcat pre-installed on your operating system? Other reports suggest that the pre-installed one is incompatible with Alfresco and you should use a virgin one or the full Alfresco installer.

nope, Tomcat wasn't installed before Alfresco. The only Tomcat that's on there is what's included with Alfresco.
I doubt its a tomcat issue, I think its Alfresco because I'm able to get the login page (at /Share) but I just can't log in sometimes.

Just to add another voice in here - are you giving the /alfresco app enough time to load? It can take anywhere up to 3 minutes to fully deploy depending on your server specs. Share relies on the /alfresco webapp to authenticate, so if you can log-in to Share you can log-in to the other client. Share will wait for /alfresco to load (do your first logins take a long time?) whereas the Explorer client won't present a UI at all.

If I got to /Alfresco (notice the uppercase "A") it tries to load then times out. I do a couple of fresh reloads and it eventually just stops and doesn't try to contact the web server anymore (the browser loading animation doesn't animate anymore). Then if I try /alfresco (notice the lowercase "a") I get a 40x something error. Then I try /Share and I get a login page and I log in. Then and only then does /alfresco comes up (/Alfresco simply doesn't work)

An odd behaviour. Could you investigate your log, while experiencing this type of startup?
The last lines of a normal startup should be something like these.
Please compare the time each line takes to appear with your installation.
