Alfresco,

The MS Word plugin looks nice but I have a problem installing it. I need to be a local administrator to install this, fine. Once installed however it's only available for this user. Is there any way to install this addin for an account with limited Windows rights (some option like 'install for all users on this computer' during installation)?

Thanks!

Seems that it's solved in the newest release… great!

Hi,

Yes, sorry - I meant to reply to your original post saying I had updated the installer.

Glad you found it!

I've installed the the add-in using the computer's administrator account, and then using "run-as administrator" on the user account.

My problem is the add-in is working if I  Winword.exe using "run-as administrator", however it doesn't work by running it as the local user.

It lookis like some sort of security issue. I'm going ot try to chase it down, but if anyone can help it would be appreciated..

thanks,

Tony

Hi

If you're using Vista then you need to grab a post-v2.1 Community Final version; either from nightly builds or 2.1 Enterprise.

Thanks,

I'm installing onto windows XP using a nightly build. The problem is word has to run as Administrator to see the plug in.

Up to now we have been installing on accounts with administrator privileges. I'm going to see if this duplicates on another set up or if this is unique to a specific machine.

Has anyone confirmed that this will run without administrator privileges.

Hi

Yes, the add-ins will definitely run without administrative privileges.

Thanks,
Mike

Not here… not yet…

It won't even show up in the com add-ins unless word is running with administrative privileges..

Just to clarify - you will most likely need to install using an administrative account due to the COM component registration required. However we have tested running using normal accounts on both XP and Vista.

Is there anything "special" about your XP configuration other than running with a non-admin user account?

Thanks,
Mike

Thanks for all your replies.

The plug in was installed with administrative rights. If I run word using the "Run as" administrator, everything works OK however the add in does not even show up by doubling clicking the word icon.

I've used regmon to see if a key permission is causing trouble, by no luck. Now I'm trying filemon but cant figure it out. I gave full access to c:\program files\alfresco and c:\program files\common files\vsto.

I will try again tomorrow to see if i have to give read/write to aother set of folders.

Thanks again

Tony
