We would like to announce that the V2.1 Community Candidate Release of Alfresco is now available.  This release introduces a number of new features, including:
    - ECMS

      - Web Scripts: a REST API Framework
              - Extended Javascript and Freemarker APIs
              - Microsoft Word Integration
              - RIA Portlets
              - PHP Scripting and Templating
              - Task commenting
        - Web Content Managment:

      - Deployment
              - Search
              - Content Launch
              - Content Expiration
              - Locking
              - Custom editor toolbars

        - BETA Features:

      - Link Management
              - Deployment to file-server
              - Blog publishing
              - WCM Portlet for non-technical users
The default configuration for all the bundles is HSQL.  There are instructions that can be found after installation that explain how to easily revert to MySQL.

The installer bundles have more configuration options for selecting which type of database you wish to use, and locations for storing content and indexes.

The open source version is available to download at: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=143373

Release notes for V2.1 can be found in our wiki here: http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/Release_2.1

Please see http://www.alfresco.com if you are interested in the Enterprise Network edition.

Thank you again for your continued support,

The Alfresco Team.

IMPORTANT NOTE: It seems to take at least 24 hours for SourceForge to update its mirrors for the downloads to become available!

>I'm confused this discussion and the download links refer to 2.1 RC. But the main page refers to Community Edition 2.1 being available! So which is it?

Both. The version that has just been released is Community Edition 2.1 Release Candidate.

>Also I can't find anywhere a simple and clear explanation of what the "Native Office Integration" is. Does it mean that I no longer need to install OpenOffice for document transformation?

No, you still need OO for transformations. The native Office integration is currently a plug-in for MS Word 2003 that facilitates check-in/out, search, workflow, etc. It's pretty impressive. I believe that other Office products and versions will be supported in future.

Hi,

Please note that the Excel and PowerPoint add-ins on the nightly server haven't been through our testing procedures - in fact, I've already fixed some installer issues so you'd be better off waiting for the 2.1 Final next week.

Thanks,
Mike

Is the Alfresco-Community-2.1R1-Linux-x86-Install file available in the RC2 or 2.1.0 versions?
I cann't see this install file in the dowloads directory or the /downloads/nightly/dist directory?

G'day,
just wondering if you had a planned date for 2.1 Final?  Also, I assume there aren't significant feature differences between the RC & Final releases.  Do you have a list of bugs that are planned to be addressed?
