The company that pays my bond uses livelink to host a forum for the discussion of Open Source Solutions. For reasons that should be fairly obvious I am trying to duplicate the functionality used in livelink in alfresco. One frequently used option is to add, instead of content, a link to an external article. I have been unable to find a way of doing this in alfresco. Is this possible? How?
Any other comments on how alfresco compares to livelink would also be appreciated.
TIA

If I am reading the JIRA entry correctly it seems that this will be 'fixed' in 1.3. If I have not misunderstood JIRA, with which I am not familar, yet, then the follow on question is when will 1.3 be released?

Yes JIRA "fixed" for a task means when it will be implemented, for a bug or similar it means when it will be fixed
The 1.3 timeframe is end April to mid May.
Thanks,
Kevin

I see that this feature http://www.alfresco.org/jira/browse/AWC-253 is now an open-ended task (if I read version:'future' correctly).
I'm at a loss to understand why this is not a fundamental requirement of any content management system that calls itself 'next generation'. Surely, if you can't link to an external site then all you are building is more silos. Please tell me that Alfresco is more web friendly than this? (Update: Forgive me if this sounds a little harsh, but the rest of Alfresco is so well engineered that I am having trouble coming to terms with this feature not being present in a v1.3 release with, apparently, no concrete plans to implement it).
I'd be happy to help out with an implementation, but it appears to require changes at the most fundamental level of Alfresco that would require more than a newbie (to Alfresco) to understand all the ramifications (which might explain why it has been postponed indefinitely…).

Just out of interest, did this get resolved or not, as I'd like to able to link to certain pages off my pentaho server, but the only way i've found at the moment is to dump a file with a iframe tag in it that links to my pentaho page.
Cheers
