4.0 Turn off notification service

I just did a test upgrade preparing for 4.0. In doing so I just spammed a couple of hundred users with notifications mails from the test server  Smiley Surprisedops:

How can I turn this feature off?  I do not want it in test environment.

Found it, its in ActivitiesFeed subsystem, set

activities.feed.notifier.enabled=false

Strange, I look at the admin console in share, and there is no setting available for the activity feeds. Using 4.0.c.

Strange, I look at the admin console in share, and there is no setting available for the activity feeds. Using 4.0.c.

You need to use Enterprise edition to change settings in Share admin console, the version number indicates you are using Community.

Is this also version related?

Being on a community version, where can I change the notification settings? Is this in the activity feeds subsystem?

You are correct, any settings found in the properties file from the subsystem can be copied to your alfresco-global.properties, and there you can change them as needed.

As for the error, it is missing the nodeRef parameter, in this case this can be (but I'm not sure) the reference to the freemarker template to create the email. Do you have template files in Data Dictionary/Email Templates/activities. Default there is six template files.

Is your repo an upgrade? Did all patches work during upgrade if so? What version of 4.0 are you on?

I had a working copy of Alfresco-3.4.d, installed via the installer, on Debian Squeeze & MySQL. I liked they way that this keeps the Alfresco installation tight. The only thing that really is a burden on Debian is the SWF Tools with some uncertainties in getting it to work. I then wanted to upgrade to 4.0., but the only installer is for 64-bit, so I labored with the manual installation, finally succeeded, and then found a post in these forums that stated that an upgrade could be possible through dropping in the new .WAR-files. I decided to try, see the procedure below.

I upgraded through
1. Installed a copy alfresco-3.4.d into a directory called alfresco-4.0.c.
2. Erased the Alfresco and Share directories and the corresponding WAR-files. Dropped and recreated the DB (MySQL), wiped the alf_data directory and copied in the /bin and /alfresco (extensions etc) from the .zip file to the corresponding directories. Put the new .WAR-files into the webapp folder. And restarted.
3. The Patch "patch.db-V3.4-AVM-rename-dupes" did not go through, but I applied the solution outlined in https://issues.alfresco.com/jira/browse/ALF-11646, and that worked.
4. Stopped
5. Dropped and re-created the DB. Restored the working DB. Wiped the alf_data directory, replaced it by the working directory. Restarted. It works, with the exception of the nodeRef error. :?:  :shock:

I am now on 4.0.c.  Smiley Very Happy All of the above was done on a lab server, come weekend I'll get on the real machine. There are six template files in the directory, do you have any further tips?

I just found out that logged as a user with administrative role one can disable notifications for other users by using the same link as if it was the other user ej. http://<alfresco_server>/share/page/user/<username>/user-notifications
