3.2r twenty times slower than a samba server?

Hello,

we have installed Alfresco CE 3.2r on an OpenSuSE 11.0 x86-64, together with MySQL 5.1.50.
Hardware: Intel Xeon E5335  @ 2.00GHz, 8GB RAM
Load average: 0.9

We then did a little performance check:

1. Stopped Alfresco, started a local Samba-Server.

2. Copied a 10 MB file from a Windows XP client to the Samba-Server

3. Stopped the Samba-Server, started the ALfresco Server.

4. Copied the same 10 MB from the same Windows client to the Alfresco Server.

5. Result: The second copy task took nearly 20 times longer!

Can anyone give me a hint, what might cause such a delay while copying this file?

Thanks for any suggestions,

Stefan

There is probably other processing going on with Alfresco like full text indexing, metadata extraction and thumbnailing.

You may be able to turn a lot of that off or run it asynchronously.
