How to add version comment when using "Edit in MS Office"?

When I manually upload a new version of a document, I can add a comment to the new version.  If I edit in ms office and save, I get no option to add a comment and it saves the version, noting "No Comment".  It wouldn't be a problem if I could edit the comment after, but there doesn't seem to be a way.  It seems a bit silly to have to download the document every time to make a revision when it would be much easier to edit in Office and save.

In Microsoft Office you can "Checkout" and "Checkin" the document you are editing. This gives you the option to provide a version comment during checkin and determine the type of version you want to create. But the default behaviour of opening for edit with simple save is meant for the convenience of users, similar to how SharePoint works by default. In SharePoint though there is a configuration to require checkout for editing, which does not exist in Alfresco.
