I use JBOSS GA 4.2.2 for Alfresco on Windows 2003. I extracted alfresco-community-war-2.1.0.zip and put all files to JBOSS deploy folder C:\jboss-4.2.2.GA\server\default\deploy.
Then change following files under in C:\jboss-4.2.2.GA\server\default\deploy\extensions\extension for SQL Server:
custom-hibernate-dialect.properties
custom-repository.properties

Then I start JBOSS and got following error:

2007-11-13 12:56:51,984 ERROR [org.springframework.web.context.ContextLoader] Context initialization failed
org.springframework.beans.factory.BeanInitializationException: Could not load properties; nested exception is java.io.FileNotFoundException: class path resource [alfresco/extensions/extension/custom-repository.properties] cannot be opened because it does not exist
Caused by:
java.io.FileNotFoundException: class path resource [alfresco/extensions/extension/custom-repository.properties] cannot be opened because it does not exist

It can not find out the file: alfresco/extensions/extension/custom-repository.properties.

Question is: what is the location for alfresco? should I set it manually like
alfresco = C:\jboss-4.2.2.GA\server\default\deploy in OS environment variable?

You do not need an env variables. I think your files are in the wrong places, see this:
