Where do we begin?

Hello everyone,

My team and I have been assigned a project in which we are supposed to configure emails sent automatically by Alfresco. Unfortunately, after two weeks of work, we haven't been able to achieve much. Some of the things we have done so far :

Trying and failing to install the SDK, following instructions from various sources
Changing email settings manually from Alfresco Explorer
Directly manipulating .java files in the SDK

The second and third were not too wise, but we were really struggling.

We would really appreciate it if someone could help us find a resource which will give us reliable instructions to install Alfresco, the SDK, and related software, as well as show us the way to modify the SDK and have the changes reflected in Alfresco itself, or any way to modify the .java files and have them updated to the server.

We understand that the answers to these questions are probably completely obvious, which could be the reason why we can't find them anywhere…

Thanks in advance!

I know this is an old post, but thought I'd reach out anyway.

The way you set up your project depends on personal preference and what you are trying to do. It is highly unlikely that you will need to re-compile Alfresco. Instead, you'll create extensions.

You might be interested in some tutorials on custom content models and custom actions.

The Share Extras project is also a good source of example projects.

And, there are a number of books on Alfresco, several of which include tips for getting set up.
