You can place the icons in the /projects/web-client/source/web/images/filetypes and /projects/web-client/source/web/images/filetypes32.

The naming convention is <ext>.gif

As Gav says, place the icons in the folders as above. You need a 16x16 pixel and 32x32 pixel icon - one for each of the folders. You name the icon as per the extension you are trying to support e.g. to support ".psd" files you call the icon files "psd.gif". Simply adding them to the directory is enough - the web-client will automatically pick them up next time you start the server.

Thanks,

Kevin

I've been working on a new Alfresco skin and posted some of my work at at http://forge.alfresco.com/frs/?group_id=9

You'll see the original as well as a new icon theme. You may find this helpful.

Thanks guys. I was hoping that I could do it via XML extension, and from what you said, I need to do via source code in an IDE (Eclipse) which I have no experience.

I want to say thank you for such a wonderfull product like Alfresco and from what I read it will become alot better. This product has motivate me to learn JAVA and setting up an Eclipse IDE.

Alfresco vs Sharepoint?
I work for a K-12 education environment and our IT department are looking at Sharepoint but I was hoping to give Alfresco a try.  I will do a demo of Alfresco to the CIO and Webmaster in about two weeks and any help with be great. I am more of a System Administrator than a developer and have very little programming experience (which I am only begininig to learn).

I will new post on this with more details.

Again, thank you for a great product.
