I have several instances. Mostly 64-bit Ubuntu versions, but also 64-bit CentOS linux. Since I've got Alfresco version 4.2, I use Tomcat 7 and Java 7 (openjdk and oracle java both).

Edit: Just to add this, I have no issues running Alfresco (Community, 4.2) on DigitalOcean.com 2GB droplets for dev.
