Hi,

I was wondering what the purpose of OpenOffice is within Alfresco? Is it only used for transformation purposes or are there also other functionalities that are used?

How can I know that OpenOffice is working correctly together with Alfresco? This question seems perhaps stupid, but as I do not know what OpenOffice is intented to do for Alfresco…

Thanks a lot for your answers.

OpenOffice is only used for transformation, and even then it isn't responsible for all transformations supported by Alfresco (ImageMagick and PDFBox are some of the other transformation "libraries" we use).

Thanks a lot for your answer.

So that means if I am able to transform a PDF to a text document for example, OpenOffice is installed and working correctly for Alfresco?

Thanks.

Cheers,

Chris

I believe PDF to text transformation is performed by PDFBox (which is a Java library provided along with Alfresco), so I don't think that's a good test.  A better test is to transform a Microsoft Word document into PDF - that's one of the transformations that is handled by OpenOffice.

Peter

Hi,

I'm interested on this topic, so I've been trying several transformation purposes in order to test OppenOffice. What I've realised is that I'm able to transform a Microsoft Word document into PDF, but it doesn't works when I try to execute any other type of transformation, such as plain text to PDF, plain text to OpenOffice, …

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
