With user quotas there is no warning when a user is reaching their quota level using CIFS.
If a user uploads a file through a regular windows interface (using CIFS), and that file takes them over their quota - no warning is displayed. The file merely exists as a file of size 0 kb.
Does anyone know if it is possible to have warnings show up as with DiskQuotas in Windows?

No its not possible. CIFS does not have the concept of quota warnings.
You should have received an Error on attempting to go over your quota.
