Hi all,

I've just downloaded and installed the AlfrescoCommunity-2.0Preview-Setup.exe using its JDK and HSQL on a winXP box and get the following after following the WCM_BETA_Eval_Guide.pdf tutorial and trying to preview the web site

INFO: Find registry server-registry.xml at classpath resource 22/02/2007 14:42:47 org.apache.catalina.startup.Catalina start
INFO: Server startup in 32578 ms
14:43:26,609 WARN  [web.config.ClientConfigElement] Virtualisation Server not started - reverting to default IP: 127-0-0-1.ip.alfrescodemo.net
14:43:26,609 WARN  [web.config.ClientConfigElement] Virtualisation Server not started - reverting to default port: 8180

It looks like the Virtualisation server never starts, as there is nothing in the virtual-tomcat logs or temp directories… any ideas?

Thanks,
Alex.

Hi,
I'm getting this error as well.. I had virtualisation working in the first beta release. I'm using the WAR distrib.

Have you run virtual_start to start the Virtual Tomcat instance?

If not, you'll see that output a few minutes after running alf_start.

I have the same problem that the virtualisation server not started.
After the first time I had installed Alfresco 2.0 everything worked fine. Now if a stopped the server and shut down the pc , it doesn`t work no more. I always get the message : virtualisation server not started.
But I started the server and if I start the server  I get the following message:
This release of Apache Tomcat was packaged to run on J2SE 5.0 or later. It can be run earlier JVMs by downloading and installing a compatibility package from the Apache Tomcat binarydownload page.

and then the window closed.

Can somebody help me ?? Cause I can't test my website without a virtualisation.

Thanks for help

Did you try starting it seperately? i.e. virtual_start  and have you checked you are using a 1.5 JVM?

Yes I started seperatly and yes I have the actually Version of JVM.  That`s crazy !! I don`t understand why it works the first time and if I shut down my pc and wanna start again alfresco virtualisation server it doesn`t work.

Have somebody else this problem too, or can somebody help me???

OK, I'm not sure if this will help at all, but I had the same problem and this helped.  You need the Alfresco server to be fully running before the virtualisation server starts.  I modified the alfresco.bat file with the following:

rem ———————————
rem Start Virtualization if available
rem ———————————
ECHO Please wait for the Alfresco server to start, then press any key to continue.
PAUSE
if exist "%~dp0virtual_start.bat" call "%~dp0virtual_start.bat"

This is far from a good solution, but it has worked for me.  Just wait for the Alfresco server to fire up completely, then hit any key to fire up the rest.

Good luck.

The virtualization server will just emit warnings until the alfersco webapp
is up.  Once, the Alfresco webapp is fully initialized, the virtualization
server will connect to it, and will stop issuing warnings.

Therefore, you don't need to take any special measures to "baby sit"
the startup.   For that reason, I recommend that you remove the
modifications you've made to this bat file – they aren't necessary.

In the future, I'll try to make this warning more explicit.

Cheers,
-Jon

OK, I just installed a fresh copy of Alfresco 2.0 + WCM.  When I fired it up the first time, the virtualization server came up.  When I tried re-starting the server, the virtualization server fails quickly and quietly when alfresco startup hit's the following:

13:10:03,960 WARN  [remoting.rmi.RmiRegistryFactoryBean] Could not detect RMI registry - creating new one

Any ideas on where I could look to solve this issue?  The pause in the .bat file is certainly not a solution.  But it has worked for me.

Thanks for your help.
