validation while content creation

I am very new to Alfresco

How can i validate a field during content creation. Can we use javascript in the XSD?? and if yes how to use it?

For example :
Validation for an email id. If a proper email id is not given error should be displayed

You mean as a input? Just look at /jsp/content/create-content-wizard/details.jsp
It's with javascript. I do not think they (Alfresco) have a XML file for validation, like in Struts. But, JSF should.
