V1.3dev language settings question and general issues

Hello!

I tried v1.3 alfresco because webdav upload in 1.2.1 caused a crah *everytime*.

I havent tried uploading with this new version yet, but i would like to achieve some configuration that i could not manage to achieve even with 1.2.1 version :

1) setting default language. I would like to set default language to french. When i select french language when logging in, everything is fine… but the "English" selectbox entry is still checked, because i cant see where to set "French" *default* login language (even the login page is rendered in english). I put "French" entry in first position in web-client-config.xml, but it does not work. Any ideas? Smiley Happy

2) 1.2.1 version was running fine, but 1.3 is extremely slow (>10sec each page with 1 concurent user -me- on a opteron + 1G ram)

Thank you !

edit: additional info : i installed linux auto install v1.3dev with no other configuration on debian gnu/linux. BTW, webdav upload is running fine this time, well done 🙂

edit : i am afraid i was wrong about webdav… which i am sad to say it is still an issue : tomcat is crashing when uploading files using webdav transport Smiley Sad so this 1.3 version, for me, is worse than 1.2.1 because i meet the same issues added with a slow rendering 😕

Hello,

I have tried to reproduce your symptoms in the 1.3 community preview, and have not been able to.

I experience sub 2 second response time for browsing spaces, for 1 user on a fairly old machine we have FC4 running on (a Dell dimension 4550).

Also, I tried uploading some files using WebDAV.
Here are my timings:

WebDAV transfer began 11:44
WebDAV transfer finished 11:45.30
Total transfer time: 1 minute 30 secs
Num files: 69
Num folders: 4
Total size: 34MB

WebDAV transfer began 11:47
WebDAV transfer finished 11:48.40
Total transfer time: 1 minute 40 secs
Num files: 102
Num folders: 10
Total size: 95MB

WebDAV transfer began 11:50
WebDAV transfer finished 12:02
Total transfer time:  12 minutes
Num files: 489
Num folders: 89
Total size: 128MB

This is with the VM set to 512MB (the machine only has 1Gig in total).

What sort of dataset are you transferring over WebDAV?

Also, can you double check that your VM size is set correctly, since the symptoms you are reporting are a classic case of a small VM.

Thank you! Yes the VM is defaulty set up to 512M. I installed alf1.3 on another server, a fresh debian install. It ran better and i could not notice slow output, even if the server is less powerfull.

But there are still errors and crashes, and it seems to be related to charset probleme using windows xp webfolders (those webfolders look like a big bug :s ) Just for the story : i set up a webfolder, and then it made alfresco crash. I installed alfresco on another machine and a second webfolder on the client, which i could not setup because webfolders were corrupted. Then i reinstalled the client XP webfolders and managed to set up this second webfolder, but this time there is a charset problem, and, moreover, the webfolders are not the same that i had in the first place. Microsoft should rent some alfresco developper to help them i guess Smiley Happy

Unfortunately, there are no good third party webdav clients for windows xp wich integrate nicely to the explorer. :s

BTW, is there an option to set up default language in alfresco? (to get french language and french entry selected on login screen)

thank you
