Using the deployment engine / standalone deployment receiver

I'm relatively new to Alfresco, and seemingly unable to find valid instructions on how to deploy content from Alfresco to a target machine. I actually got this working in Alfresco 3.4 using the standalone deployment receiver and configuring the deployment receiver on the "web project." However, we're switching to 4.2 and I'm completely lost. I installed the "complete" installation of Alfresco Community 4.2c. I no longer see "Web Projects" as a navigation item when I go into Explorer under Company Home (I have Data Dictionary, Guest Home, Imap Attachments, Sites, User Home).

Here is some basic housekeeping - When I look at different documentation, I continually see "The AVM has been deprecated… etc." so I'm sort of confused what is and isn't supported anymore. I'll need help with what features are really in v 4.2. Next, I've found a variety of Alfresco components that seem to be related to deployment but I'm not sure which are the right things (e.g. WCM Deployment Engine, File System Deployment Target, File System Transfer Receiver). None of that documentation seems to give me some instructions at the n00b level to get this back to working. Well, the FSDT documentation gives instructions like what I did before, but I don't have the "Web Projects" area that it mentions (http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/File_System_Deployment_Target)

Has the "Web Projects" feature been removed?  If I need it, can you please guide me as to how to enable it? Also, can someone tell me which receiver I'm actually going to connect to? The FSDT documentation sounds exactly like what I did before. However, The "Standalone Deployment Engine" and "WCM Deployment Engine (http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/WCM_Deployment_Engine)" also seem related. Have I installed WQS improperly?

Any help you can give me would be appreciated.

WCM Deployment Engine, File System Deployment Target, File System Transfer Receiver are all to do with AVM.   As you have seen its deprecated in 4.0.     

Its still available, maintained and working in 4.X but to see "web projects" you need to "bootstrap" AVM.    That's always been the case.

WQS is something different.

AVM is deprecated; I don't want to use it but I'm still stuck trying to figure out what actually can be used and learning how to use it.

What are the proper tools to use for deployment (like the standalone deployment receiver in 3.4) under 4.2? Is it possible to do the same thing I did before using the "File System Transfer Receiver?" If so, where the heck do I configure the content to get it moving out to my servers again?

Ok, I'm past my original questions! I'm trying to set up the FSTR and I found a great set of instructions (in a bug report here: https://issues.alfresco.com/jira/browse/ALF-10571 and a tutorial here: http://basanagowdapatil.blogspot.com/2012/03/fstr.html).

When I try to set up my transfer target the "select…" modal comes up but alfresco errors out. It looks like I've missed something simple in the transfer group setup. Do you have a suggestion here? I feel like I followed the instructions:

The error instead of a list of transfer targets is:
