Using PHP API under Free Network pricing

I created an account under the Free Network to try out Alfresco. I have above average knowledge of PHP. I am trying to follow the tutorials here: http://code.google.com/p/alfresco-php-sdk/wiki/PHPAPITutorials

Can I connect to my hosted alfresco account or do I have to install it locally or on a dev server?

I have not been able to determine what the repo url is b/c it seems everyone else is running it locally.
I also do not know what the username/pwd is. Is it my login details that I use for the web app or is it Account Name under the web app Account Settings?

Am I way off base in thinking you should be able to connect to the hosted alfresco solution?

Clearly not.

I only have a dim understanding of the php interface but I don't think it is a remote API.   

And currently the only remote interfaces that can connect to alfresco in the cloud are mobile, webDav and cloud sync.   More interfaces will be opened up in future.
