User Permissions Docs Library

Hi,

Not sure if this has been asked before but I can't find any other posts that answer the questions exactly.  We have a partner org that we want them to be able to update data sheets, presentations etc on the share, but we don't want to give them access to any other part of the site other than the folder in the document library that is theirs.

I'm sure it must be possible but can't seem to find any guidance for looking.

Thanks

Will

The short answer is that you can modify the permissions on any folder as you see fit. When you "Manage Permissions" on a folder in the Share site's document library, you'll see the Share site permissions mapping for a given folder. However, if you go in through the "Repository" view (click the "Repository" link, then drill down into the "Sites" folder, etc.) you have full control over the permissions for the folders and objects in those folders.

You should be able to navigate to the folder and then add a group as a collaborator.

I have seen problems when users have access to a child folder but not the parent of the child folder. So you might need to keep that in mind. For example, if you don't invite that partner group to the site, but you grant them specific access to a folder within the site, they may have problems navigating to the folder like a normal site user would.

Thanks for that Jeff.

I may have come up with a cunning plan….our main site is a private site, so I created a new site for the US partner, invited them to it and accepted that invite.  i then logged on as the alf admin, created folders in the doc library for the new site and created rules that filter down to all subfolders too that move files placed in these dir's to the relevant folder in our private site.

I then opened the repository and set 'local' rules for the partner account to have the rights needed to those folders.  tested it and it appears to have worked 🙂  Not being an expert on alfresco by any means as my log files are showing some odd errors making me think my config is potentially shot (see my other post if anybody can help) but quite pleased with myself for hatching that one  Smiley Very Happy
