User Management and Permissions

I am using Alfresco Labs 3.0. I have created a set of users, groups, spaces and workflows. Now, I am trying to configure access permisisons for uses belonging to specific groups in specific folders. For eg. all the members of a particular group say "creator" should have access to create content in a particular space. Also, they should be able to use the workflow defined in teh space to move the content to another folder. Can you please let me know if this can be done from Alfresco GUI or do I need to change any XML files or alfresco code base.

I have been trying to find this going thru different articles / sites. Not much help. Any direction would be very helpful.

Thanks much for your reply.  Can you please let me know if it is configurable from the Alfresco JFS GUI.  I have been reading the the link you have given. Looks to be a bit complicated.  Is there any other article that you can share.

Creating custom roles is not the easiest thing to grasp in the beginning.  I'm not 100% clear on what exactly your needs are but in my opinion the default roles that alfresco gives you usually can be utilized to meet your needs.   Have you had a chance to examine those?  If you are hesitant to write custom roles have a look at http://webunit.cs.athabascau.ca/projects/cms_selection/alfresco/DefaultUserRolesInAlfresco and see if you can make the default ones work for you.

Also there is no method of modifying roles in explorer (JSF client)
