Use of Activiti designer

I want to use the Activiti designer for creating workflows for Alfresco.
First I have to understand how to use the Activiti designer. I have seen the Activiti user guide, but that goes after the description of the installation of the designer into features of the designer, so that does not help me …

Is there somewhere a description (non-developer) how to use the Activiti designer?

If I had not tried it, I would not be able to come to the conclusion that I need some clarification 😉
