Unable to deploy to remote server

I am working through the configuration of the Alfresco WCM and have the virtualization server running. However, I am not able to deploy a Web project to a remote server using the Community 2.1 Deployment client. The servers are talking to each other, but the Deployment client errors with the following, which I have taken from the View Deployment Report details.

It looks as though there is an authentication problem, but I do not know how to remedy the problem. The user and password are both the default on the the sending and receiving end.

Any insight would be greatly appeciated. Thanks.

You have to use a \\hostname or \\ipaddress in order to the deployment code to recognize that it is deploying to a remote FS receiver

Thank you for the tip. However, when I enter \\ into the Deploy To field of the Web Projects Settings wizard and attempt a deployment I get an Invalid Property value in the Alfresco log and no communication with the remote server is even attempted (according to tcpdump). This happens whether I include a port number or not. This may be related to a parsing "feature" described in the JIRA (http://issues.alfresco.com/browse/WCM-692).

Without the \\ and including the port number, i.e. http://www.xxx.yyy.zzz:44100, in the Deploy To field a connection is made to the remote server on the specified port (according to tcpdump).

I am attempting to deploy to a remote server not running Alfresco, but running the alfresco-community-deployment package. The deployment client is running and I can telnet to it on the 44100 port.

Is the remote server behind a firewall? If so opening the RMI port is not going to solve it. See this thread: http://forums.alfresco.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=10120
