Unable to cancel offline checkout

Greetings:
We are running an instance of Alfresco Community Edition on CentOS server (More setup details at the end).

One of our users had checked out a file for editing offline and is now unable to cancel the checkout (or upload a newer version to complete the process).

I have logged in as the admin user and face the same issue. To isolate and deal with this issue, I moved this file from its original site to a new site 'test'. I've tried several options that I could think of (cancel, check-in, deleting document via Alfresco Explorer, deleting site, using original creator id, clearing deleted items & cleaning contentstore.deleted etc.) without much success. Forum/Google search for similar issues has not helped either.

We are not sure of the exact steps that were followed to end up in this situation. Attempts to reproduce this problem have not succeeded either. Unfortunately, the original catalina logs had been cleared out before this problem was raised up to the administrators.

It appears that I could be dealing with some sort of DB corruption. A sample error log and screenshot of the file has been attached. I would appreciate any pointers or links to similar issues.

Thanks
Vijay
PS: Apart from this single issue, our experience with Alfresco so far has been excellent. Our repository size is more than 10GB with several active users. System has been up and running for almost an year now without any other issue.

SETUP DETAILS:
- Alfresco Community Edition 4.2.c
- CentOS 6.4
- Postgresql 8.4.13
- Java SE 1.7.0_40-b43
- Java HotSpot 24.0-b56, mixed mode
- Tomcat (Alfresco packaged version)

Welcome to the Alfresco community, we are glad you are here.

I have seen this happen before and I was surprised that I was able to use CMIS to unlock the document. It may not work in your case, but it might be worth a try. Is downloading the OpenCMIS Workbench, the OpenCMIS Java library, or the cmislib Python library an option for you? If so, try using one of those tools to grab a handle to the document, then call cancelCheckout().

If you need help doing that, post here which tool you decide to go with and I'll walk you through it.

Jeff, many thanks for your quick response.

Infact, I have just been trying to use OpenCMIS workbench to delete the object. I have been able to connect to my repository and access my files. But the "cancel checkout" or "delete" operation fails.

Have attached some screenshots for your reference. Any suggestions on what I might be missing?

Thanks
Vijay

Phew..
This is what I did (just in case it helps someone):
1. Open 'share', navigate to the 'site' and to the specific document and click on the document link to get to the preview page
2. Click on "view original document"
3. Click on "delete"
4. Done!

Cheers!
