This document can't be previewed

running tomcat bundle on Ubuntu 8.04  LTS

pdf preview works fine but with (ms) word, excel an oo text and cals docs i get the message "This document can't be previewed"

Installed  (apt-get) openoffice.org and ImageMagick 6.3.7 andswftools 0.9.0 and  running everything as root.

Please help?

on Ubuntu 8.04 LTS default (apt-get install) openoffice.org not adequate

also do . . .
apt-get install openoffice.org-headless

I cannot see this headless package in the Ubuntu 9.10

Any tips?
