Sync not working

We have recently migrated from Alfresco 3.4.9 to 4.1.5 and do not see updates syncing between two alfresco servers. These servers are not in a cluster. Cache (L1 or L2) does not get reflected or updated as well in other Alfresco server. We are seeing stale node errors as well. Does anyone know if anything has changed between 3.4.9 and 4.1.5 Alfresco server versions?

What sort of sync?   What errors.

Why care you concerned with L1 and L2 cache if you are not clustered?

We are seeing stale node errors when we make an update to a document in one Alfresco server and try to access the same document using other Alfresco server. We are expecting index sync to happen and also update cache in respective Alfresco servers.
